The guy gave an explanation on how to move things from one point to other, like in a FAX. But, what you will get in the other side of the fax, is a COPY. The original is still in the origin. Unless we are sending "Clones"

Now in timeline (the book) they explane that a lil better. The device they built was almost exactly liek a fax in the fact it sent your information from one place to another. BUT they also explaned that unlike a Fax, the original body was slowly destroyed while being rebuilt on the other side, Thus the Transcription errors. The more you make copys of a copy the more corrupt the image becomes. This was what caused Decker to go nuts and the doctor they found in the road die.

    Now, lets talk PROTON PACKS!!!!!

    Cool

The ships were able to travel way beyond the speed of light... warp 10 used to be a milestone but I think it got broken way back in the beginning of TNG... and the warp factors are not scaled according to the number... ie warp 2 is not 2 times the speed of light it's more...

Any way you look at it... the ships had to travel fast enough to get from place to place during a 1-hour episode otherwise it would have been very boring to watch.
